Otherness

Femininity is creeping and crawling in unexpected places. It is always imposed on women, despite any opposition or resistance. My work confronts the expectations of femininity through textiles and other traditionally feminine materials, such as makeup, mirrors, and clothing. I also use craft materials, such as sewing, crocheting, and embroidery, and question why certain mediums associated with women have not been accepted as part of fine art. Women are not seen as the standard but rather as something that is other. My bugs depict the otherness of women and emphasize that we are out of place in a patriarchal society. Ultimately, my work explores the experience of being a feminine woman, someone who is still underrepresented in the art world and not understood in society.
